2014 Monthelie Rouge 1er Cru ‘Sur la Velle’, Eric de Suremain

From a parcel of old vines that borders Volnay Santenots, in other words, great Terroir. This is one of the wines that I purchase for myself every year and thankfully the De Suremain's, who know I like it so much, let me purchase a little more of it than the others. This 2014 is very fine, showing floral, strawberry aromas as usual with lovely lift and finesse. This wine always has a cool edge about it. In the mouth it's reserved for a split second and then electric - amazingly pure and fine, long and with a lingering sweetness and fragrance. TOP !

For a big bear of a man, Eric de Suremain produces the silkiest, most elegant and delicate Burgundy you can imagine and they are wines that I often bring out simply to surprise people at their quality.

His bio-dynamic methods, some of the Côte d’Or’s lowest yields (often on a par with nearby Domaine Leroy), rigorous grape selection and his minimal intervention winemaking policy conspire to produce some of the purest, finest and most complex Burgundy available.
