2014 MesdemoiZelles (Pouilly-Vinzelles Vieilles Vignes), Domaine Valette

(from 70-year-old vines; aged for 30 months in older barrels): the soils here are VERY 'Calcaire' and the vines over eighty years old. Aromatically this is profound with ripe apple, pear and a zesty lime, the fragrance is such that it invites repeated inspection. This has both density and levity in the mouth but with the Valette signature freshness and lively acidity that makes the wine vibrate the senses. A serious wine that will gain further complexity and interest with time in the cellar.

Baptiste and Philippe Valette continues on in their father Gerard’s footsteps by producing incredible wines, packed with personality. They are the refrence point for artisan wines from the Mâconnais.

I often find myself in the cellars and homes of the winemakers that we work with and those that we would like to work with and it is interesting to see the bottles that have been kept by them that sit empty in their homes and cellars. I think it would be fair to say that those of Valette have been the most prominent and when remarked upon, his work is respected and adored.
