2016 Jasnières 'Les Rosiers' is a dry wine in this excellent but cruel vintage where frost wiped out most of the harvest. Aromatically expansive with citrus, orchard fruits and hints of white flowers. The structure is graceful, fine and slender, with a balance based on great freshness and an exquisite line of acidity neatly woven throughout. In the mouth this is a striking wine, attractively fruit-filled but slender and graceful it is very expressive and it charms the palate with its purity. Seriously top.
Jasnières and it's neighbour Coteaux du Loir are tiny appellations 25 miles north of Tours on the smaller Loir River in the central part of France's Loire Valley. Both appellations produce delicious dry white wines exclusively from Chenin Blanc. The wines are rare, and in the case of Eric Nicolas, amongst the greatest white wines produced in the Loire Valley. This is indeed an incredible source of wine.
These are hand made wines in the extreme and Eric has established himself as the point of reference in this part of the valley and commands a serious and sincere domestic following, particularly amongst Sommeliers.
