This is 100% Gamay, sourced from granitic soils with overlying sand which tends to make a lighter wine. The aromatics are deliciously pure, full of freshly crushed cherry and summer berry fruits, the overall effect really very attractive. The palate is fresh, pure, the mouthfeel open and juicy with a joyous and precise fruit character, polished and elegantly poised. A beautifully attractive Gamay at a steal!
The remote and somewhat unknown Côtes du Forez appellation is located between the Loire and Allier rivers in the center of France. Domaine Verdier-Logel is the leading estate of this small and obscure appellation where vineyards are few and far between.
More than twenty years on since they started out together Jacky Logel and Odile Vergier - the finest producers in their appellation - are looking to retire, and it is Jacky's nephew Maxime Gillier who is set to take over the running of the domaine - this is easily the best estate of the Côtes du Forez
