2018 Coteaux du Loir “L’Effraie”, Domaine de Bellivière

DRY. This is from cooler growing area than Jasnières and the wine is indeed coiled tighter and feels cooler and more reserved. This feels more mineral, very lean and with great pulsing drive. Again like the Les Rosiers, it is imbued with tension and the feeling of cool stones and saline freshness with super tightness and reserve. Simply wonderful Chenin that will cellar incredibly well.

Jasnières and it's neighbour Coteaux du Loir are tiny appellations 25 miles north of Tours on the smaller Loir River in the central part of France's Loire Valley. Both appellations produce delicious dry white wines exclusively from Chenin Blanc. The wines are rare, and in the case of Eric Nicolas, amongst the greatest white wines produced in the Loire Valley. This is indeed an incredible source of wine.

These are hand made wines in the extreme and Eric has established himself  as the point of reference in this part of the valley and commands a serious and sincere domestic following, particularly amongst Sommeliers.
