Entirely crafted from Merlot planted on a combination of limestone, sand and sandstone, the 2022 Les Jardins d'Edina unfurls from the glass with a pure, delicate bouquet of cassis, violet, dark berries and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, round and supple, it's framed by velvety tannins with a long, penetrating finish. 91/100

Olivier Rivière, a Frenchman working in Spain for the past 20 years has launched a new project in his homeland and area of birth, the Gironde. We know the sumptuous, fresh and beautiful wines he has been producing from Rioja and now you can taste his talent through a different lens. These are very beautifully crafted and as you would expect, the finest quality, I encourage you to get behind Olivier's debut of Jardins d'Edina, you will be happy you did!
We have grown used to thinking of Olivier Riviere in context of Spain, which became his adopted home for nearly two decades. His pioneering work and captivating range of terroir driven wines created during this time, changed how we view and think of Rioja today. Many have since emulated his style
In recent years, apart from consolidating his project in Spain around the village of Cárdenas (La Rioja), Olivier also bought some 15 hectares of vines in Bordeaux, AOC Côtes de Bourg. This new venture has been named Les Jardins d’Edina (after his daughter).
The vineyards which are in conversion to biodynamic viticulture are mostly planted to Merlot, but in not distant future Olivier also plans to make room for Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
The first wine released comes from two distinctive types of soil: sandy gravel (vinified in concrete tank) and calcareous clay (in used barrels). Having witnessed his immense talent develop over the years, I am very excited and have no doubt that this new garden will flourish!
